Spa in Noosa
A Fibreglass Spa Installation in Noosa
Installing a fibreglass spa in a steep or confined site can be a real challenge — especially when manual access isn’t possible. Our team was engaged by a Noosa’s Own Building and Maintenance to plan and execute a safe, efficient lift using our crane fleet. This project showcases how Coastal Crane Hire’s experience, planning, and precision handling make complex residential lifts straightforward for builders and installers alike.
The Job
The client needed a crane in Noosa to install a fibreglass spa at a residential property where access was too limited to manoeuvre it manually. The driveway was steep, narrow, and bordered by structures that ruled out delivery by hand or trolley. The only safe option was a craned lift.
Job and Site Considerations
Before planning the lift, we reviewed several key factors:
- Spa weight: approximately 500 kg empty.
- Access: a steep, narrow driveway around 20 m long with limited turning space.
- Overhead obstacles: nearby powerlines and established trees required careful positioning and boom angle planning.
- Traffic management: due to the property’s location on a busy street, partial road closure was required.
The Lift Plan
After assessing the site it was determined:
- a 90-tonne all-terrain slew crane was needed to provide the necessary reach and stability.
- Boom length: approximately 45m to clear trees and rooflines.
- Setup: traffic control commenced first to secure the work zone.
- Positioning: the crane was set up on stable ground, with the operator using a lift plan to confirm safe working loads and radius.
- Communication: constant communication was maintained with the dogman for the lift then the rigger guiding the load to landing.
Job Timeline
9:30 am: traffic control setup began.
10:00 am: crane arrived on site and was rigged for operation.
10:45 am: spa lifted smoothly into position within the prepared recess.
11:30 am: equipment dismantled, site cleared, and traffic reopened.
What Went Well
- The lift was completed in less than a third of the allotted time.
- No site issues or equipment delays.
- Excellent coordination between the crane crew, traffic control, and spa installers ensured the client’s schedule stayed on track.
